Met Gala fans all make same savage comparison after seeing Rita Ora's near naked look

Met Gala fans all make same savage comparison after seeing Rita Ora's near naked look

While many felt Rita Ora looked 'stunning', some couldn't help but make the same hilarious comparison as she walked the red carpet

The Met Gala looks proved to be a mixed bag last night, with many of the event’s old, reliable favourites turning out to be no-shows (we’re looking at you, Rihanna and Blake Lively!)

Some fans were disappointed by those that seemed to hold back a bit this year, with plenty of muted tones and simple silhouettes going against the ‘Garden of Time’ dress code.

Of course, we knew Zendaya would NAIL the brief as she rocked up in a

custom John Galliano creation based on a 1999 Dior gown, having been styled by long-time collaborator Law Roach.

Rita Ora also went suitably lavish - even if her unique bodysuit left some people making the same hilarious comparison.

The 33-year-old, who attended the event with husband Taika Waititi, wore a custom Marni outfit that featured a sheer nude bodysuit with multicoloured glass bead fringing and accompanying decorative beads.

Speaking to Vogue on the red carpet, she said the larger beads were sourced from North Africa and Europe and from the 1st and 2nd Century BC, making them ‘older than anyone on this planet’.

Ora explained: “We really wanted to take fashion for me with the theme and just sort of a timeless beauty. So all these beads really age back to the first and second century BC. I mean some, I think, are older than anyone on this planet."

But while the outfit had an incredible story behind it, many people were left distracted by what it reminded them of.

“My nan had Rita Ora's Met Gala dress on her kitchen door,” one tweeted.

Someone else echoed: “Expecting my Nan to appear from Rita Ora's naval to tell me my tea's ready and to stop annoying the dog.”

A third said: “Rita Ora wore a beaded curtain #MetGala.”

Sharing a screengrab of ‘Fun Express Metallic Rainbow Fringe Curtains for Party’ from Amazon, with a woman posing next to the product in the photo, another joked: “Rita Ora arrives at the Met Gala.”

Ora didn’t seem too bothered by the social media reaction, taking to Instagram to discuss how the piece was made of ‘one of a kind antique beads from all over the world’, highlighting ‘one of humankind’s most ancient crafted objects’.

She said the ancient items were paired with ‘antique glass beads from Murano’, which dated back to the 1940s and 1970s.

“It has been constructed as if all the vertical beads have been weaved together to make an intricate pattern play between colour and texture,” Ora added.

“The verticality of the dress elongates the silhouette, and the slight tension around the waist exhale the curves of the body further.

“It is all hanging from a beautiful handmade metal structure that adorns the neckline almost as a jewel and defines it in a very graphic way.”

Even after all that, someone still wrote underneath: “U look very sexy but gotta say it reminds me of what my granny had on her back door to keep flys out.”

Another said the star looked ‘stunning’, and frankly we can’t help but agree... even if it does admittedly look a bit like a curtain.
