Khloe Kardashian has legally changed her son’s name

Khloe Kardashian has legally changed her son’s name

She welcomed her son via surrogate in August last year

Khloe Kardashian has legally changed her son’s name, one year after he was born - having previously been tight-lipped about what she'd decided to go for.

Khloe, 39, welcomed her second child with Canadian-American basketball player Tristan Thompson, 32, in August last year, having used a surrogate.

Khloe, who is also mum to five-year-old True, has had something of an on-off relationship with her children’s dad over the years, after Tristan became involved in a high-profile cheating scandal and fathered another child with fitness model Maralee Nichols.

The pair have now maintained a platonic friendship in a bid to co-parent the kids together effectively, with Khloe saying in a June episode of The Kardashians: “Tristan and I, we always get along great.

“Him and I, have a great friendship-relationship, we get along fine. And for my kids, I will put anything to the side. What’s done is done, so what would I still be holding on to something for? I don’t need to punish him because I’m not getting back with him.”

For some time, Khloe kept the name of their second child under wraps, implying on The Jennifer Hudson Show that it simply began with a ‘T’, before reports later saying the tot was called ‘Tatum Robert’.

According to documents obtained by People, Khloe initially listed her son’s name as ‘Baby Kardashian’ on his birth certificate, as she was yet to decide on a permanent choice.

However, the outlet went on to say that, on Thursday 31 August, a Los Angeles court judge granted the name change for her son, officially decreeing him Tatum Thompson.

California law allows parents to give their child either the paternal last name, the maternal last name or a combination of the two.

The final decision reached will be permanent unless the court decides to intervene.

Little Tatum was born last August.

It was reported that Khloe at first gave her son the legal surname Kardashian when he was born, but she later changed it to Thompson.

Khloe has been open with her struggles bonding with Tatum, saying her experience with her second child has been different to the one she’s had with True.

Another moment in The Kardashians saw the star admitting she feels ‘guilty’ that her connection with her son isn’t the same as True’s, but maintaining that she doesn’t treat each child differently.

However, Kris begged her daughter to be less critical of herself, saying that, whenever she comes over, Khloe is ‘mother of the year, always feeding someone or entertaining someone or doting on your kids'.

"You're the most attentive person to all of us," she said.
