Amy Dowden suffers another blow as blood clots discovered following cancer diagnosis

The Strictly Come Dancing star has updated people on her condition

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has told fans that she is suffering from blood clots as part of an update on her ongoing treatment for breast cancer.

The Strictly dancer announced in May that she'd been diagnosed with cancer at the age of 32, leading to a massive outpouring of love, affection and support for her.

Further bad news was to come for Amy after doctors told her she'd been diagnosed with another type of cancer that would require chemotherapy.

She said she's been chronicling her treatment on social media to raise awareness of what cancer patients go through during chemotherapy.

Dowden explained that she'd originally been set for 'a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment' before the second cancer was discovered and needed chemotherapy.

Through it all, Amy's goal has been to get back on the dance floor and while she won't be able to appear on this year's Strictly, she is aiming to return to the show as a dancer.

In a new update on Instagram, the dancing star told fans she was excited to be heading home from the hospital and sleeping in her own bed again but had been suffering from blood clots.

Dowden posted a picture of herself in a hospital bed giving the thumbs up, accompanied by the caption: "And I’m going home to my own bed! Thanks again to the marvellous NHS!

"Got some blood clots but I’m feeling good other than a sore and swollen arm. Another hurdle along this journey.

"But again forever grateful to the nhs and my heroes around me. Can’t wait to get into my own bed since Monday though."

Amy has also been updating her fans on some of the other effects of chemotherapy, including the hair loss that comes with it.

She's been asking her followers for ways to alleviate the soreness on her head caused by the treatment and has had many helpful suggestions from fans who want to help her out.

The Strictly star has been receiving wave after wave of support from fans who have been offering her words of encouragement during these times.

She had discovered the cancer just before going to the Maldives on a delayed honeymoon with fellow dancer Ben Jones, and went to the GP after discovering that the lump had grown.
