Unflinching drama series Gangs of London has got all of Twitter talking - and fans are calling it "the modern day Peaky Blinders".

The nine-part Sky original stars Peaky's very own Joe Cole, alongside fellow cast members Sope Dirisu, Colm Meaney, Lucian Msamati and Michelle Farley.

With its deep dive into the power struggles of London's criminal underworld, the thriller has clearly made an impression, and fans are drawing comparisons with its Birmingham-based predecessor.

One rave reviewer commented: "Watched gangs of London last night, makes peaky blinders look like a soap opera! Physically itching to watch the next episode!!!"

Another agreed: "Gangs of London...class television, basically a modern day peaky blinders."

"Gangs of London p*sses all over Peaky blinders!!!" tweeted a third impressed critic.

While a fourth enthused: "Gangs of London blimey makes Peaky Blinders look like Disney."

Woah, guys. Go easy on Tommy Shelby and his criminal comrades.

For anyone not familiar with Gangs of London, the show is the creation of award-winning filmmaker Gareth Evans (The Raid) and his creative partner Matt Flannery.

Like Peaky, the series is an epic saga, and puts family at the heart of the action.

Not just any family, though. Evans series follows what happens when the head of London's most powerful crime family, Finn Wallace (Colm Meaney), is assassinated.

Finn has ruled London's criminal underworld for 20 years, with fingers in all kinds of highly illegal pies. His empire is worth billions - but now he's a goner, and nobody knows who's behind the hit.

The space Finn leaves behind creates a power vacuum, with rivals everywhere lining up to muscle in on the Wallace family's territory.

It falls to Finn's reckless son Sean (Joe Cole) to step up and take his father's place, with the assistance of the Dumani family headed up by Ed Dumani (Lucian Msamati).

But Finn's rise to power puts a lot of noses out of joint, causing rising tensions in the world of international crime.

Enter Finn's ally Elliot Finch (Sope Dirsu), who up until now has been an out-of-luck waster. But what are his stakes in the Wallace family?

What happens next is an immersive trip into the darkest corners of the biggest criminal organisation in London.

Sold? Anything that reportedly makes Peaky look like Disney has us shook, tbh.

Co-produced with Cinemax, Gangs of London is available to watch on Sky Atlantic and TV streaming service NOW TV.
