The Definitive Guide To Every Christmas Film On Netflix On Christmas Day

The Definitive Guide To Every Christmas Film On Netflix On Christmas Day

From the traditional to new classics - and the ones that are so bad they're great. Here's what Netflix has to offer in the coming weeks.

If the Queen's speech isn't really your vibe then, like us, you might be searching for something schmaltzy, heartwarming and sweeter than a selection box to hunker down with on the sofa and watch on the big day.

Here's a definitive guide to what Netflix has in store on December 25th 2018 so you don't have to waste precious relaxation time scrolling through Christmas duds.

The Christmas Chronicles

From the producers of Home Alone, Harry Potter and The Angry Birds Movie you'd expect nothing less than a new Christmas classic. It's the story of sister and brother, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose plan to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera turns into a pretty predictable adventure. After staking out the big man, they sneak into his sleigh, cause a crash and almost derail Christmas (what else). As their night unfolds, Kate and Teddy iron out their sibling rivalry to work together with Santa to save Christmas - before it's too late (you know it ends well).

A Christmas Prince

It's the Netflix obsession that landed them in hot water when the streaming hub called out the 53 people who watched the Christmas rom-com every day for 18 days straight, asking on Twitter: "Who hurt you?"

But it's not too hard to see how it could turn into a habit. As a holiday cheesefest it's perfect.

Amber (played by actress Rose McIver) is a journalist dispatched to the generic European country of Aldovia (never heard of it) for a press conference covering Prince Richard (played by Ben Lamb) who's set to take over the nation after his father's death. Then the two just happen to fall in love. Simples.

Netflix

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding

Remember these two? A year after Amber helped Richard secure the crown, the two are set to tie the knot in a royal Christmas wedding in the sequel. But their wedding plans are jeopardised when Amber finds herself second-guessing whether or not she's cut out to be queen and Richard is faced with a political crisis that threatens to tarnish not only the holiday season, but the future of the kingdom. Spoiler alert: it's all fine.

Netflix

The Princess Switch

Margaret, the gorgeous Duchess of Montenaro (where?), switches places with Stacy, a 'commoner' from Chicago, who looks exactly like her - why? Not sure. With the assistance of a magical, semi-problematic old man who we assume to be Santa's helper, Margaret falls in love with Stacy's handsome co-worker, while Stacy falls in love with Margaret's fiancé, the dashing Prince. You'd think that might be awkward, but weirdly isn't - because: Christmas.

Netflix

The Holiday Calendar

The premise of this rom-com is slightly off beat but stay with us. A struggling but (of course) talented photographer inherits an antique holiday advent calendar, the contents of which seem to predict the future (what else?).

But aside from the baffling supernatural element, the rest of the film is comfortingly predictable as the magical calendar leads her to love and Abby (Kat Graham) must choose between best friend Josh (Quincy Brown) or dreamy doctor Ty (Ethan Peck).

Netflix

Christmas Inheritance

To teach his privileged, heiress daughter a lesson a business owner sends his daughter to the small town where his business was founded on the premise of delivering a letter to his pen pal (sure). There he hopes she'll learn the value of hard work and helping others - but it's a rom-com so it's no secret she meets someone hot. Some girls have all the luck.

Netflix

Angela's Christmas

Based on the children's book by Pulitzer-Prize winner Frank McCourt, Angela's Christmas is a heartwarming and poignant 30-minute short about family love and a little girl's kindness Christmas. Expect all the feels.

Netflix

Nativity!

Had enough of over-excited kids in the run up to Christmas? Best give this one a miss. Paul (played by Martin Freeman) charged with directing the school nativity play, boasts that his ex-girlfriend plans to turn the production into a film. It's a lie. But somewhat problematically he doesn't get fired.

BBC

Deck The Halls

More of a Grinch than a Cindy Lou? We hear you. Deck the Halls was originally panned by critics for its lack of Christmas cheer and tale of two mean-spirited neighbours competing over who can have the most festive Christmas lights. Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito are the perfect palette cleanser after all that saccharine sweetness.

Arthur ChristmasFrom the makers of Wallace and Gromit this computer animation eschews the idea that Santa uses magic to deliver presents to the world's entire global child population in one night. Instead it's a military-style operation with elves parachuting down chimneys from an airship. However after a glitch it's Santa's son, Arthur (voiced by James McAvoy) who has to save the day. And does. Obvs.

The Holiday

Dumped and depressed, but still predictably gorgeous, Iris (Kate Winslet) agrees to swap her quaint English country home with similarly unlucky-in-love and attractive Californian Amanda (Cameron Diaz) over Christmas. You guessed it they both find love: with Jack Black and Jude Law respectively. Expect great knitwear and covetable real estate on both sides of the pond.
