Tom Hardy Joins Prince Charles to Read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas

Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall have joined a whole host of famous faces in a new charity video, reading 'Twas The Night Before Christmas.

The Royals narrated the Clement Clarke Moore poem alongside Daniel Craig, Dame Judi Dench and Tom Hardy, among other actors and actresses, to raise awareness about the Actors' Benevolent Fund (ABF).

The fund supports "actors and stage managers experiencing hardship owing to illness, injury or old age," and has received more requests than ever this year.

Also joining the cast of the video were greats including Dame Maggie Smith, Joanna Lumley, and Sex Education's Ncuti Gatwa.

The Prince of Wales is said to have come up with the idea for the charity clip, prompting the charity to rally an all-star cast to boost the fund's profile.

Speaking from his home in London's Clarence House, Prince Charles read the opening line of the poem: ''Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.'

The stars then each took segments of the poem, in a video which is being released on Clarence House's social media today (Christmas Eve).

The ABF has never been more necessary, as Covid-19 safety restrictions have left theatres desolate for much of the year.

In April, the charity started an Emergency Grant Fund to look after those experiencing financial difficulty as a result of the pandemic.

While it originally supported those of retirement age, the virus has also prompted the charity to branch out, and this year it has been helping everyone, from the age of 18-47.

Prince Charles and Camilla have long been advocates for the arts, with the Queen's son speaking in May about his concerns for how theatres and opera houses would survive.

Here's hoping this video raises some much needed awareness.
