It's the fan-favourite 90s animation that Disneyfied ancient Greece - and now a live action remake is in the works.
The 1997 classic was an epic musical retelling of Greek mythology with plenty of slapstick humour thrown in.
Tate Donovan voiced our favourite half-god, half-mortal, while James Woods took on the voice of Hades, the god plotting to overturn Olympus.
We're so ready to go from zero to hero all over again, but what will a reboot of the cartoon version look like?

Who's behind the remake?
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the new version will be produced by Joe and Anthony Russo.
The duo have experience working on films with heroic characters and were the creative brains behind Avengers: Infinity War and End Game.
Meanwhile, Disney are said to have brought in Marvel's Dave Callaham, who wrote Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, to work his magic on the script.

How faithful will the reboot be?
There are two roads to go down here.

The songs were a big part of the original Hercules (The Gospel Truth, Zero To Hero, I Won't Say I'm In Love - we could go on) and it may be that Disney will stick to a musical formula, as it did with its live action remakes of Lion King and Aladdin.
That said, the films rooting in epic Greek mythology could mean that producers want to focus more on the original legend, much like in Mulan.
Talking about the project in an interview with Collider, the Russos said that "music will certainly be a part of it".

With that in mind, perhaps we could see a compromise where some of the original songs are carried over, but not all, as with The Jungle Book remake?
Who will star?
With the remake in the earliest stages of production, we don't have anything concrete to go on - but there are some seriously juicy rumours flying around like Pegasus.

The biggest is that Ariana Grande will play the role of Megara because she sang the Hercules song I Won't Say I'm in Love in the Disney Family Singalong that was released before the live-action reboot was confirmed.
We're here for this casting rumour. Ariana has the voice, the look, and the sass befitting of the perfect Megara.
As to sculpted demigod Hercules, names that have been thrown around include Armie Hammer (oh-so-appropriate - we can really see Armie in armour chest plating) and Chris Pratt.
Meanwhile, Jeff Goldblum and Jim Carry have been rumoured for the role of Hades.
Naturally, when it comes to the casting of the Muses, we're talking megawatt names galore. Think Lizzo (please, film gods!), Jennifer Hudson and Janelle Monae, to name a handful.
When will the remake be released?
With the cast yet to be announced and film production on pause due to coronavirus, realistically the new Hercules movie won't be released until summer 2022 at the earliest.
In the meantime, we'll be watching the original and singing Zero To Hero at the top of our lungs for a hit of 90s nostalgia.
