An Instagram post has finally revealed what the mysterious creatures decimating an entire population actually look like in Bird Box.

The film sees Sandra Bullock et al trying to escape an unknown force that plays on their deepest, darkest secrets and fears. If they see these creatures with their own eyes, they'll die.

As per the synopsis: "When a mysterious force decimates the population, only one thing is certain -- if you see it, you die. The survivors must now avoid coming face to face with an entity that takes the form of their worst fears.

"Searching for hope and a new beginning, a woman and her children embark on a dangerous journey through the woods and down a river to find the one place that may offer sanctuary. To make it, they'll have to cover their eyes from the evil that chases them -- and complete the trip blindfolded."

As the characters try to survive by reaching a safe house while wearing blindfolds, those watching can only imagine how the chilling force would look.

Netflix

Creators of Netflix's most successful flick ever previously discussed why they chose not to reveal to viewers what these creatures look like, even deleting a scene which gave a glimpse at their appearance.

But despite director Susanne Bier deciding to keep the identity of the creatures completely secret, a recently shared (and swiftly deleted) Instagram post has finally given an insight to those desperate to know an insight.

Bird Box's special effects make-up coordinator Howard Berger's prosthetic work was posted online, showing us what they would have looked like.

Instagram page SFX Atlas reshared the image of human-like beings shortly after, which have horribly veiny bald heads, cauliflower ears and chillingly dark eyes. There's no denying that they are the stuff of nightmares.

Speaking of the creatures being cut from the Netflix movie, Howard explained: "It's always a bit disappointing when so much effort goes into something that ends up in the cutting room floor, but I get it and it's always what is best for the final product."

Director Susanne revealed the creatures were removed so the Netflix movie kept its dark, twisted themes.

When Sandra was shown the prosthetics during filming, she couldn't keep a straight face and began laughing, changing the mood of the film entirely.
