'Gavin And Stacey' Has Been Removed From Netflix

In the immortal words of Pamela Shipman: oh my Christ! Gavin & Stacey has been removed from Netflix.

Previously, all three series of the hit comedy sitcom were available to watch on the streaming service, with series one of the BBC show added in summer 2018, joining two and three.

In Christmas 2019, the show - filmed in Barry, South Wales - returned to our screens for the first time in 10 years in an acclaimed festive special.

But now the show is noticeably absent from the entertainment platform - and the news is sure to come as a blow lovers of the fan-favourite comedy.

The removal of the series comes after the much-loved show came under fire from some viewers for references to "Chinese Alan", "Japanese Margaret" and "Seth the Black fella".

With comedy series Little Britain removed from Netflix, BBC and BritBox in the wake of Black Lives Matter protests Netflix, BBC and BritBox, attention turned to Gavin & Stacey.

One Twitter user wrote: "With this whole cancel culture I hope @bbc now removes #gavinandstacey from @bbciplayer, @netflix @BritBox_UK.

"The show is misogynistic, racist, homophobic and guilty of fat shaming."

In another point of contention, the show writers defended their decision to include a particular line in the famed song Fairytale of New York, which contains homophobic slurs and is sung by Nessa and Bryn during a karaoke scene.

The lyrics are: "You scumbag, you maggot/ You cheap lousy f****t/ Happy Christmas, your arse/ I pray God it's our last."

Talking about her decision to include the anti-gay slur in the Christmas special, show writer Ruth Jones pointed out that her characters were never "going to be intentionally hurtful".

She continued: "By the same token, they're not necessarily going to be completely politically correct or be aware of political correctness."

Fans mourning the loss of the show from Netflix can take comfort in the fact that all three series of the show are still available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

It looks as though the Beeb will be holding on to Gavin & Stacey, too. When asked whether the show would be the next show on iPlayer to bite the dust, a BBC spokesperson told Metro: "These changes only affect Little Britain."
