If you're looking for a gripping watch tonight, and you don't fancy the I'm A Celebrity jungle, then why not switch on Channel 5 to tune into new crime drama Cold Call?

The four-part psychological thriller stars Ordinary Lies actress Sally Lindsay as June Clarke - a single-mother caught up in a fraudulent cold call scam that threatens to unravel her life.

Set in Manchester, hard-working mum June is left determined to salvage her family's future after the out-of-the-blue phone call throws her life into chaos.

Each hour-long episode will explore just how far a normal woman can be stretched when a very real threat to her - and her family's - lives presents itself.

The series' synopsis reads: "Whether June Clarke is working as a carer, looking after mother, Sophie, or worrying about her pregnant daughter Hana, life can be tough.

"However, to give Hana and her unborn baby a fresh start, June rashly sells her house despite losing her job. What June doesn't know is that a team of cold call fraudsters have used an unsuspecting Sophie to trick June out of her house sale cash."

Adding: "In a moment, what should have been a dream for Hana turns into a nightmare for all three women. Penniless and rehomed by the council, June attends a support group for victims of fraud where she meets old schoolmate, Des Grigsby.

"Emotionally and mentally drained, June's reunion with Des is complicated by his vigilante obsession with fraudsters.

It continues: "June not only finds herself in a dark criminal underbelly of society but also in the fraudster's home, as Des tracks the criminal network to respected businessman, Kirk Wiley.

"As June enters the Wiley household as a carer for Kirk's elderly mother, Des encourages her to uncover evidence to take Kirk down.

"It's not long before June finds her sheltered life becoming all too precarious, and a dangerous game of cat and mouse begins to unfold. How far will June go to get her money back?" it concludes.

The gripping drama also stars Daniel Ryan (Mount Pleasant) as Des, Paul Higgins (Line of Duty) as Kirk, Taj Atwal (Stella) as Hana and Daniel Skinner (Sex Education) as Aubrey.

The series was written by Karyn Dougan-Buckland and Mark Buckland and is the first original drama order for Channel 5 in four years.

Speaking about the new show, which was first announced last August, series lead Sally Lindsay said at the time: "I'm incredibly excited to be working with Channel 5 and Chalkboard on Cold Call.

"The pitch was a complete page turner, the story jumping off the page straight away. I can't wait to bring this very modern thriller alive; exploring how far a very normal woman will be stretched when she is horribly deceived, and her entire life and family are destroyed.

"I think the subject matter is extremely of the moment with the divide of the haves and have-nots getting ever wider."

Cold Call starts tonight at 9pm on Channel 5. It will air this week from Monday - Thursday on the broadcaster.
