Breaking Bad Creator Vince Gilligan Confirms A Film Is Officially In The Works

It's been five long years since Breaking Bad came to a close, but the drug-fueled drama is making a comeback, as creators confirm a film is in the works.

The man behind the hit series, Vince Gilligan, has revealed he's working on a two-hour film, although it hasn't been made clear whether it'll be released theatrically or for made for television.

Very little information has been revealed on the project, which has been floating around under the fake/working title of Greenbrier, according to Hollywood Reporter.

Again, it's not known whether the film would be a follow-up of some description, or even another prequel like Better Call Saul. It's also not yet known whether the stars of Breaking Bad, such as Bryan Cranston or Aaron Paul, will be involved, but we can certainly hope for their return.

According to the sources Gilligan will write the script, executive produce and if that wasn't enough, he might even direct it too.

Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein, executive producers from both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are expected to be involved too.

Production of the film, which is said to follow the escape of a kidnapped man on his quest for freedom, is said to begin this month in New Mexico.

This was confirmed by the New Mexico Film Office, who said a project with the title of Greenbrier is slated to start shooting in the region.

The film would make Gilligan's first project after signing an impressive three-year deal with Sony TV in July, expected to be valued at around $50 million.

A Breaking Bad film would be a huge move for Sony TV, which has been fighting huge struggles over the last few years, but Gilligan's deal will keep one of the industry's most respected showrunners in the studio to focus on cable and streaming deals.
