Scarlett Johansson says babies are much easier than raising toddlers

Scarlett Johansson says babies are much easier than raising toddlers

The Marvel actor revealed the 'bossy' ways of her daughter as she describes the struggles of raising a toddler

Scarlett Johansson made a confession about mum life that many other parents can probably relate to.

The 38-year-old is a mum-of-two with daughter Rose, eight, and son Cosmo, who is nearly two.

And it seems the Black Widow actor isn’t hugely excited for him to become a toddler.

Johansson had Rose with her ex-husband Romain Dauriac and shares Cosmo with her current husband SNL's Colin Jost.

With her son still in his baby phase, she opened up about motherhood in an April episode of The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast.

While the star called having a baby ‘so lovely’, the same couldn’t be said about toddlers, as she compared that period of her daughter’s life to being ‘in an emotionally abusive relationship’.

“Three is really tough. I remember my daughter — my daughter is 8 1/2 — and when she was 2, I thought, 'This is great. I don't know what everybody is talking about." Johansson said.

“Then she turned 3, and it was like being in an emotionally abusive relationship. It's crazy.”

She added that her daughter had rather ‘bossy’ behaviour and had ‘intense emotional swings’.

“Those poor little guys; I feel bad for 'em. Must be a lot — you're up and down constantly,” Johansson said.

Elsewhere in the interview, she simply said that there ‘is no balance’ of her career and life as a mum.

So Johansson puts her family first and then adjusts her work schedule to fit around them.

The Marvel star now puts more consideration into taking roles than she did before becoming a mum, as she explained: “I work, usually, like 15-hour days, so if I'm gonna be working on something and have to relocate everybody, it's adventurous in some ways for the kids, but they also need stability too.”

Now that Rose especially is older, Johansson said that she doesn’t ‘work in the same way’ she used to when she was 25.

And before Cosmo gets into his ‘terrible twos’, Johansson is enjoying the less chaotic baby life with him.

Talking about the difference between babies and toddlers, she said: “They're so cute. They sit there and they love you and then that's it. And you just get, like, love from them, whereas you get a lot of grief from toddlers.

"Like, everything you do is not right, which is hard.”

Fingers crossed Cosmo doesn’t turn out as ‘bossy’ as his big sister – for Johansson’s sake anyway.
