Prue Leith's Car Breakdown Is Hailed By Fans As 'The Best Part Of The Jubilee Weekend'

Poor Prue Leith faced a car blunder when her vintage Jaguar broke down during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Pageant on Sunday (5 June).

Prue, 82, had been taking a journey up The Mall as one of the 200 national treasures, when her vintage car broke down.

But four members of security were on hand to help, and could be seen pushing the car along in a bid to get things moving towards Buckingham Palace.

Great British Bake Off star Prue saw the funny side, and could be seen smiling and waving as crowds cheered her on.

And fans at home couldn't stop discussing the blunder on social media, either with one person commenting: "Howling at Prue Leith being pushed along in a broken down car."

While another said: "Just tuned in to see a bus loaded with Teletubbies having to drive around a broken-down jag carrying Prue Leith."

And a third added: "I see Prue Leith's Jag needed a push. She needs to take the Great British Brake Off."

A fourth joked: "Prue’s car has got a soggy bottom."

"Something brilliantly British about Prue Leith in an old car being pushed past Buckingham Palace and the Royal Box because it has broken down," said another.

And a sixth added: "Prue Leith’s car breaking down in the middle of the Jubilee pageant and having to be pushed along by marshals is the best part of the celebrations so far!"

It's been a jam-packed weekend full of celebrations, and on Sunday evening (5 June), the Royal family as well as members of the public, enjoyed the Platinum Pageant which combined street art, theatre, musical and circus performances.

This weekend kicked off with the Queen's official birthday event, Trooping the Colour, on Thursday, followed by a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s on Friday and a Party at the Palace on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Queen said in a letter to the nation that she was 'humbled and deeply touched' by the celebrations.

"When it comes to how to mark seventy years as your Queen, there is no guidebook to follow. It really is a first. But I have been humbled and deeply touched that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee," she wrote.

"While I may not have attended every event in person, my heart has been with you all; and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family.

"I have been inspired by the kindness, joy and kinship that has been so evident in recent days, and I hope this renewed sense of togetherness will be felt for many years to come.

"I thank you most sincerely for your good wishes and for the part you have all played in these happy celebrations."
