Buffy The Vampire Slayer actor Nicholas Brendon has been rushed to A&E after suffering a 'cardiac incident'.

A statement on the actor's social media revealed the news, explaining Nicholas, 51, was admitted to hospital following a health scare two weeks ago.

"Nicky sends his love and wanted me to apologise that he hasn't been going live as much lately and to give everyone an update," it reads.

"Nicky is doing fine now but he had to be rushed to emergency two weeks ago because of a cardiac incident (tachycardia/arrhythmia).

"Some of you might remember he had a similar incident after his second spinal surgery last year (for Cauda Equina). This time he is trying to get a little more rest and has been concentrating on medical appointments."

Alongside the post were a series of photos of Nicholas in hospital, including one of him in an ambulance and another of the actor lying in a hospital bed.

Fans rushed to the post to offer their support and send their well wishes to the star.

One person wrote: "Sending love and well wishes over. Have a speedy recovery," while another said: "Sending so much love and healing wishes."

A third added: "You got this Nicky! Speedy recovery we are all thinking of you."

And a fourth wrote: "Sending thoughts and prayers brother. Hope you get to feeling better."

Nicholas is best known for playing Xander Harris in the popular 90s show, Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The actor - who is also known for playing Kevin Lynch in Criminal Minds - was a huge part of the series, appearing in all but one of the 145 episodes.

Back in March this year, the show celebrated 25 years since its premiere date.

Back in March this year, the show celebrated 25 years since its premiere date.

At the time, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Buffy, said: "25 years ago today I had the honour to introduce the world to my version of Buffy Anne Summers.

"It was an uphill battle. A mid season replacement, on a new network based on a movie, that was by no means a giant success.

"But then there was you. The fans. You believed in us. You made this happen. You are the reason 25 years later we are still celebrating. So today we celebrate you as well. #wwbd."

Nicholas now works on his own films and has a number of projects underway.

We're wishing Nicholas a speedy recovery!
