Fans of David Beckham have branded the ex-footballer as ‘desperate’ following his social media tribute to King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Beckham, 48, and his family are known to be pretty tight with the Royal Family, having previously attended Prince William and Kate Middleton’s fairytale wedding in 2011 and also holding court with Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The ex-England captain has previously said that the Windsors are 'very easy to get along with' and that he has found common ground with them through sport.
However, eyebrows have been raised following Beckham’s recent tribute to the newly coronated King and Queen.

On Saturday 6 May, Beckham posted a carousel featuring six images to his Instagram feed.
The pictures featured various shots of King Charles in black and white alongside his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and his wife, Camilla.
The post, which has already accumulated half-a million-likes, was accompanied by the caption: “Today our country comes together to celebrate the coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla @theroyalfamily.”
However, since posting, a plethora of Beckham’s followers have attacked the celebratory images and have branded the former sportsman as ‘desperate’.

One Instagram user wrote: “B*** licking your way to a knighthood, one cringing post at a time.”
Another said: “Damn, my whole life I’ve admired you. The only time you needed to take a stand, you didn’t. (I’m a big soccer fan. Yet, this [changes] everything).”
A third agreed and commented: “Charles just give the man a knighthood at this point he’s begging.”
Others ignored Beckham’s sentiments and questioned whether the coronation was appropriate given the cost of living crisis in the UK.

One disgruntled user wrote: “Seems deeply inappropriate to have such an unnecessary and expensive party when the country is quite frankly a mess with millions in financial crisis. The Monarchy is outdated and has long outstayed its welcome.”
Beckham was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to football on 13 June, 2003.
Since then, it’s been long expected that the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star would receive a knighthood in the annual New Year’s Eve Honours list.
However, in 2017, some emails reportedly regarding his fury at the continued snub were leaked to the public, further tarnishing his chances of gaining a knighthood.

As per the Mirror, Beckham reportedly called the honours committee 'unappreciative c***s' and is alleged to have written: “I expected nothing less. It’s a disgrace, to be honest, and if I was American I would have got something like this 10 years ago.”
Beckham was not included on the 2022 honours list and did not attend the King’s coronation ceremony despite allegedly being invited.
