Ahh, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake – the early noughties pop couple we all wanted to be (except when they both wore double denim).
And now, the Toxic singer has lifted the lid on their relationship, with on a throwback Instagram post looking back at when she performed on the VMAs in 2001 with Mick Jagger.
Posting a series of photos from the event on Instagram, Britney told her 34.1 million followers: “I will tell you this ... before I went on that night I was feeling kinda out of body with nerves….”

Referencing her legendary performance at the time, she continued: “I mean... I was in a cage with a live tiger! I will never forget the moment before I went in the cage!”
Britney then explained that her then-boyfriend could pick up on her palpable nerves.
“Justin saw I could hardly talk so he held my hand and gave me a five minute pep talk which obviously worked!” she said.

The pair previously met while they worked together on The Mickey Mouse Club, and confirmed they were an item back in 1999.
The pair then split in early 2002 amid cheating rumours, with Justin referencing the rumours on his track ‘Cry Me A River’.
Britney and Justin’s relationship has since been re-examined, thanks to the Framing Britney Spears documentary that came out earlier this year.
Justin was on the receiving end of criticism for playing up the rumours for record sales, as well as crudely revealing he had “f***ed Britney” on a radio programme.

But it seems that Britney still has a few fond memories of their partnership.
Britney is now happily engaged to long-term partner Sam Asghari, with Sam having proposed to the singer earlier this month.
Sam popped the question shortly after it was revealed that Britney’s father, Jamie, had agreed he would step down as her conservator following a lengthy legal battle.
