Hundreds of sausage dogs are going to be walking together in Manchester in a one-off event.

The event is hoping to raise money for dachshund charities.

Sadly, 25% of dachshunds will develop abnormal intervertebral discs to the point where they need veterinary treatment, reports Manchester Evening News.

Speaking to the MEN, the Mass Dachshund Walk organiser Julie Barbour, said: "When you're getting it from a responsible breeder, and you're doing your research to get a dog with a good background, you're hopefully taking the right steps and precausions.

"I don't think we are promoting a breed that's going to get health issues really, we are just owners who all have the same dog, who all have a passion for them, and we're going for a walk."

"We're not necessarily walking around with a banner saying 'buy a dachshund', that's not what it's about."

To take part, meet at the Boating Lake car park on Sheepfoot Lane, Manchester at 1pm - Sunday April 8th.
