You Can Now Buy Period-Proof Swimwear To Protect You From Any Mishaps This Summer

It’s the first of its kind in the world.

While we're generally pretty militant when it comes to planning our holidays, there are some things that we just can't control - one of which is getting our period.

And while we can stock up on tampons and menstrual cups all we like, old Aunt Flo's arrival is pretty restrictive when it comes to going for a swim.

Modibodi

Luckily, Aussie swimwear label Modibodi has heard our call and come up with a genius collection of period swimwear to protect from any poolside leaks, and we're shopping them right now.

Already known for its leak-free absorbent knickers that can be used in place of other menstruation products, the range includes a pair of bikini bottoms, a two-piece set and a swimsuit, all which come in black for obvious reasons.

Thanks to clever technology, the swimwear can apparently hold up to 1.5 tampons-worth of fluid, absorbing menstrual, discharge or bladder leak flow, locking it away so there's no dampness either.

They also come with a moisture-wicking layer which draws periods, bladder leaks, sweat and discharge while fighting bacteria. Amazing, right?

While the collection doesn't come at the most purse-friendly of prices - a swimsuit will set you back £98.50, the bikini bottoms are £31.50 and the full bikini set (which is currently sold out online) costs £72.50 - we think it's definitely worth it to save us from any potentially embarrassing situations.

Speaking to Huff Post Australia, Modibodi founder Kristy Chong said: "Having launched a line of fashionable, hi-tech underwear successfully into the market, our customers started to ask us for a solution for swimming as one in two young girls will not swim on her period for fear of a leak."

"We did some category research and it became very clear the swimwear industry lacked innovation and there were no other swimsuit brands on the market that could provide protection fused with fashion, so we decided to change that."

For those who want double the protection, Superdrug has just launched the UK's first period delay pill on the high street, norethisterone, which allows women to temporarily stop their periods and can be taken for 10, 20 or 30 days.

Better safe than sorry!
