Palace insider speaks out ahead of new series of The Crown that will portray King Charles' divorce

Over the weekend, TV fans were thrilled to hear that a brand new season of The Crown has finally got an official release date, and we can expect the next chapter from the drama series as early as November.

The new series will feature Dominic West as Charles and Elizabeth Debicki has Princess Diana, as the royal couple head towards a turbulent divorce.

With the new season set to air two months into King Charles III's reign, a representative from Buckingham Palace has spoken out.

A senior royal source, reportedly a close friend to the new monarch, has urged viewers to remember that The Crown is a 'drama, not a documentary.'

Describing the streaming giant as 'exploitative', the spokesperson told The Telegraph that Netflix would have 'no qualms about mangling people's reputations.'

They added: "What people forget is that there are real human beings and real lives at the heart of this."

Tyla has approached Buckingham Palace for a comment.

A first look at the new season teases an 'all-out war' between Charles and Diana, as their divorce becomes public knowledge.

"Buckingham Palace is issuing this statement: ‘It is with regret, the Prince and Princess of Wales are separating'", a news reporter says in a voiceover.

Another report describes the 'uproar in Britain after Prince Charles bared his soul to the nation, but the Princess of Wales upstaged her husband'.

There were whispers that the season might be postponed following Queen Elizabeth II's passing, but it looks like everything is going ahead as scheduled for the popular drama series.

However, production for The Crown's sixth and final season did temporarily get put on hold after news of the Queen's death first broke, and during her state funeral last week.

In season five, Queen Elizabeth will be played by Imelda Staunton, who is taking over from Olivia Colman, while Jonathan Pryce will play her husband Prince Philip.

Jonny Lee Miller is also joining the cast as Prime Minister John Major, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, and Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker Bowles.

Season five is set to cover the 1990s, including the events of 1992, which Queen Elizabeth famously described as her 'annus horribilis'. This included her daughter Princess Anne getting divorced, and her sons King Charles and Prince Andrew separating from their wives, as well as a devastating fire in Windsor Castle.

The Crown will return to Netflix on 9 November.
