Bridgerton Star Nicola Coughlan Says Emotional Farewell To Derry Girls As Final Series Wraps Filming

Bridgerton Star Nicola Coughlan Says Emotional Farewell To Derry Girls As Final Series Wraps Filming

Tissues at the ready!

Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan has shared a touching behind-the-scenes snap from the final series of the beloved Channel 4 comedy.

The actress, who has played Clare Devlin since the first series aired in 2018, has bid farewell to the hit show and her character after wrapping filming on series three.

The hilarious sitcom follows Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), her cousin Orla (Louisa Harland), their friends Michelle (Jamie-Lee O'Donnell) and Clare (Nicola Coughlan), and Michelle's English cousin James (Dylan Llewellyn) as they navigate their teenage years during the end of the early 1990s 'Troubles' in Derry.

The Instagram picture is of polaroid showing Nicola with her co-star Louisa Harland, best known for playing Orla.

The cute snap is also surrounded by two rainbow pins, possibly in tribute to Clare coming out as a "wee lesbian" at the end of series one.

"Goodbye Derry Girls, it’s been quite a ride," the 34-year-old actress captioned the post.

Although the final series won’t air until 2022, fans were already reduced to tears in the comments.

“NOOOOOOO! I'M NOT READY TO SAY GOODBYE!” one fan declared with dozens of crying emojis.

Another commenter shared: “Great show! We’ll miss the wee lesbian."

A third person wrote: “Never want this show to end."

While a fourth Instagram user paid tribute to the comedy, writing: “Thank you for making this show so magical. We love our wee Clare.”

Nicola has returned for the final batch of episodes along with Jamie Lee O’Donnell, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland and more.

Nicola will also be back for Bridgerton season 2 (
Netflix)

In January Nicola confirmed the third series was in the writing stage but the cast were unable to film at that point due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to her.ie, she teased some of the storylines written by series creator Lisa McGee.

"We can't do anything involving a crowd right now, so logistically, it's really tough. But I spoke to Lisa McGee recently and she talked me through the storylines," she said.

"They're so brilliant, which doesn't surprise me - she's just incredible - but it made me want to do it right now."

Lisa McGee later confirmed in September that the third series would be its last.

We're so excited to find out what Erin, Orla, Clare, Michelle and James have been up to.
