Netflix's number one show Night Agent is being dubbed 'series 2' of BBC's Bodyguard

Netflix's number one show Night Agent is being dubbed 'series 2' of BBC's Bodyguard

The series quickly shot to Netflix's number one spot

The BBC series Bodyguard might never have been given a second series, but according to Netflix users the new drama The Night Agent is good enough to fill the gap.

If you can believe it, it's been five whole years since Richard Madden and Keeley Hawes teamed up to bring us one of the best BBC dramas of recent memory, and ever since fans have been desperate for more.

Madden has since moved to the big screen to appear in films like Rocketman and 1917, but while fans might be getting their fill of him elsewhere, they're missing the short burst of crime drama Bodyguard delivered so brilliantly in each episode.

Enter, Gabriel Basso.

The star of The Night Agent, Basso plays low-level FBI agent Peter Sutherland who works in the basement of the White House, just waiting for the call that will change his career.

Before long, he finds himself wrapped up in a conspiracy theory leading all the way to the Oval Office, with the drama spanning 10 episodes all around an hour long to make for perfect bingeing material.

The show shot to the Number 1 spot on Netflix's Top 10 TV shows in the UK, and viewers were quick to compare it to the BBC series that many think ended far too soon.

After coming across The Night Agent, one viewer wrote: "netflix released the night agent for me because bbc were too scared to give us bodyguard s2 and it SERVED."

Another commented: "A few minutes into watching The Night Agent yesterday and it just felt like I was watching a Bodyguard spin-off," while a third tweeted: "Everyone needs to watch The Night Agent on Netflix, if you like the series Bodyguard then 100% watch it."

Basso stars in the series alongside Luciane Buchanan, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Sarah Desjardins and Phoenix Raei, among others - though far from Madden and Hawes' recognisable British accents and involvements in British politics, the story is very much American, right down to Sutherland's job in the home of the president.

Accents aside, it's clear The Night Agent is captivating viewers just like Bodyguard did, and this time they don't need to worry about begging for more.

Just yesterday (29 March), Netflix announced that the drama would be back for its second series, meaning fans definitely will get to see some more explosive adventure from Sutherland.

You will have to wait until next year to feast your eyes on the action, but a few months is definitely better than eternity.
