Emmy's 2021: The Crown's Emma Corrin Leaves Viewers Baffled Over Bonnet Choice

Emmy's 2021: The Crown's Emma Corrin Leaves Viewers Baffled Over Bonnet Choice

It’s certainly a look.

The Emmy’s are a place for TV’s brightest starlets to be bold, and Emma Corrin certainly decided to do just that.

The 25-year-old, who received universal critical acclaim for their depiction of Princess Diana in Netflix epic The Crown, chose a startling get-up to the glitzy awards do.

The actor, who recently spoke out about being non-binary, chose to wear a long, pale yellow gown by Miu Miu, complete with long fingerless gloves, which showed off with Emma’s long black nails.

The custom couture look was topped with a small yellow headpiece, which covered Emma’s usual short blonde ‘do.

It was a unique look, for sure – and while we admire them for trying something new, not everyone was a fan of Emma’s look.

On Twitter, someone compared their headpiece to a ‘bonnet’ from another popular TV show: “Was that woman applauding for The Crown wearing a white #Handmaid bonnet?”

While another said: “Why…why is Emma Corrin wearing an old-timey swimming bonnet at the Emmys?”

A third asked: “I love her but that Emma Corrin fit is just. So not it for me. Love the gloves, love the bonnet. But the shapeless tea-stain colour dress.”

But not everyone was against the look, with others taking to Emma’s Instagram to praise them for their bold outfit.

“Wolf pretending to be Grandma vibes,” said one person. “I don’t care, I love this look!”

A second said: “This is iconic, woman.”

While a third wrote: “You’re stunning and I’m obsessed.”

In other Emmy news, Michaela Coel won the award for Best Limited Series for her stunning programme, I May Destroy You.

In a short and poignant speech, Michaela dedicated her award to all survivors of sexual violence.

“Write the tale that scares you, that makes you feel uncertain, that isn’t comfortable,” she said.

The 33-year-old actor and writer added: “I dare you — in a world that entices us to browse through the lives of others to help us better determine how we feel about ourselves, and to in turn feel the need to be constantly visible, for visibility these days seems to somehow equate to success.

“Do not be afraid to disappear from it, from us for a while, and see what comes to you in the silence.”
