Barbie fans convinced it’s going to be a ‘lesbian movie’ after watching new clip

The latest teaser clip has sent the internet into quite the frenzy

We are now just a matter of weeks away from the exciting and eagerly-anticipated release of Greta Gerwig's latest directorial feat Barbie.

Fans are quite literally on the edge of their seats waiting for the film to finally hit our screens but it seems the latest clip to be teased has got many convinced it’s going to be a 'lesbian movie'.

The short clip in question shows an exchange between Margot Robbie and Ugly Betty's America Ferrera and it's quite clear it has sent the internet into quite the frenzy.

The pair shared a long stare in the latest teaser clip.

Ferrera, who plays the character Gloria, shouts at Robbie: "Get in!"

The camera then does a slow zoom into her face and she breathes heavily all while continuing some extended eye contact.

The scene then pans to Robbie's face who has a similar facial expression staring right back at Ferrera.

"Now! Get in now!" Ferrera repeats bringing the encounter to a halt.

Snapping into action, Robbie then leaps into the back seat of Ferrera's car as they speedily race off down the road.

A girl on the passenger seat, presumably Ferrera's on-stage daughter, then says: "God I hope nobody from school saw us with a life-sized Barbie in our car!

"How did this even happen? How are you here? You're like an idea!"

Amid the chaos, Robbie simply replies: "A great idea."

The clip has since made its rounds on social media with many flocking to share their pet theories on latest clip to promote the upcoming flick.

One Twitter user wrote: "Butterflies in my stomach. They did not have to stare at each other for that long."

A second commented: "Oh it’s GAY gay?"

A third penned: "The slow mo, no music, longing gaze….. this is a lesbian movie I fear."

"Now hang on. Those are gay love-eyes if I’ve ever seen 'em," claimed a fourth.

A fifth added: "If the Barbie movie is actually gay I will be so insufferable like even more than I already am about this movie I NEED IT."

Well, I guess we'll all just have to wait and see.

Robbie and Ferrera will be joined by a whole bunch of fellow Hollywood A-Listers including the likes of Ryan Gosling as Ken, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, Michael Cera and Issa Rae.

It's fair to say we're all very excited.

Barbie will be released in theatres later this month (21 July).
