Hilary Duff is being mum-shamed and even accused of "child abuse" after piercing her eight-month-old daughter's ears.
The Lizzie McGuire alum shared a photo of her daughter, Banks, on her Instagram stories, revealing she had pierced her ears.
Critics chose to flock to Hilary's account to share their opinions on the decision, commenting on a recent picture the actress had uploaded of Banks grabbing her sunglasses.
One follower opined: "I can't fathom why you would you think it's okay to have your daughter's ears pierced. Causing her a tremendous amount of pain and discomfort. Was she able to ask you to have them pierced? Was she able to agree to have them pierced?...And tell me how did it make you feel sitting there and watching her have pain inflicted on her unnecessarily?"

Others were so angry they unfollowed Hilary, writing: "Just won an unfollow after seeing you pierced her ears, poor baby. Bye!" One even likened the piercing to "child abuse".
However, other fans leapt to Hilary's defence, pointing out that piercing babies' ears is a cultural rite of passage and that no one else should have the right to judge her choice.
One fan wrote: "Love this picture and love the earrings. Please don't be bothered by the negative comments," while another said: "Love those pierced ears on your baby!! IDK why so many people these days are so preoccupied with being all up in other people's business... When did piercing your infant's ears become an issue??"
Another said this issue was dangerous for the topic of child abuse, writing: "Those saying piercing a baby's ears is child abuse disgust me to the core. How dare you downgrading actual baby abuse by comparing it to pierce a baby's ears? Shame on you all."

Hilary is far from the only celebrity to be mum-shamed - John Legend has recently spoken out about the mum-shaming his wife Chrissy Teigen received after the birth of their daughter, Luna.
However, Hilary hasn't addressed the controversy herself, so we're pretty sure she's enjoying motherhood without letting the criticism get to her.
