Greggs Launches £4 Evening Menu And Will Open 500 Stores Later

A £4 evening meal at Greggs? Yes please...

Now that Greggs is set to open later, it will also roll out evening-appropriate food to hundreds of locations across the UK this month.

The store launched the evening menu in 119 stores last year, but the pilot has clearly gone down a storm, as night time food will now be available in over 500 Greggs branches by 21st September.

From 4pm until close in selected stores, you will have access to its new southern fried goujons, BBQ chicken bites, pizza and wedges. À la carte it is not, but it includes beige goodies we all know and love Greggs for.

Some of the deals on offer will be cheaper than at other fast food chains you might usually turn to after work for a quick grab and go meal, with a hot dinner main or hot sandwich, wedges and drink that will set you back just £4.

You can also bag a pizza and a drink for £2. McDonald's who?

Not every store will offer an evening menu, as 500 locations is just a quarter of its bakeries in the UK. But you can find out if your local Greggs is adopting the night time line here.

If it is, you can expect a late night close in most stores of 9pm. Although London Bridge Station's Greggs currently shuts at 11pm and Newcastle Airport has a 24-hour Greggs.

The high street bakery, known originally for its steak bakes and sausage rolls, has made the announcement no doubt off the back of its growing success this year.

It is a store that still caters for its meat-loving fan base, but that has also listened to the ever-growing number of people who follow vegetarian and vegan diets, launching a vegan sausage roll earlier this year in line with Veganuary.

And it was one that was hailed better than the real thing by many meat lovers.

The bakery's popularity soared, with queues far-reaching out its shop doors with people hoping to get their hands on the new offering and the move saw Greggs' profits jump from £24.1m to £36.7m.

Greggs said in a statement: '"The menu aims to satisfy those on-the-go at dinnertime, looking for value, convenience and of course, great taste."

The new evening menu includes:

Spicy BBQ Chicken Bites (from £1.50) - BBQ flavour coated chicken breast pieces accompanied by a Heinz sauce pot.

Macaroni Cheese (from £2.75) - Pasta topped with a cheddar cheese sauce and crunchy ciabatta crouton crumbs.

Southern Fried Chicken Goujons (from £2.75) - Chicken breast goujons which are coated in lightly spiced southern fried style breadcrumbs. This comes with a dip of your choice.

Sadly, there are not yet signs of evening food suitable for vegans (only veggies are catered for), but we have high hopes since earlier this year Gregg's chief executive Roger Whiteside revealed that developers were currently trying to produce vegan recipes for all their big hitters.

Anyone else going to be heading for Greggs after their night out?
