Cafés are nice and all, but have you ever been to one where you can enjoy a coffee surrounded by all manner of adorable dogs?

Well listen up, because a new café has opened in Liverpool for dogs to enjoy mate dates with fellow furry friends.

The café has opened in Pets Corner, an already famous pet shop with a 50-year history, based on Allerton Road in South Liverpool.

Pets Corner is owned by Elaine Saleh, from Aigburth who took over ownership of the pet shop last September.

She told the Liverpool Echo she had dreams of transforming the old pet shop into a 'one stop shop' for dog owners, already having added in a grooming service to her pet emporium.

"We just had so many lovely customers and I thought, wouldn't it be great if they could come here for everything, not just for pet food," she said.

"The shop is now more unique, because I don't know anywhere in Liverpool where you can go in and buy your pet food, get your dog groomed, and then stay for coffee and a cake.

"We are a very friendly, neighbourhood café and it's a great environment when everyone chats with each other and the dogs can play."

Owners are able to sit down and enjoy coffee and cake over dog chit-chat, while pooches can enjoy treats such as woofcakes, doggieclairs and dog tarts, made by Elaine herself.

Sounds great, doesn't it?

And it seems Elaine is at the forefront of a growing trend for animal cafés: just last year we caught wind of Pug Café, an event company offering one-off doggie coffee date events.

The pop-up dog events are breed-specific, with past offerings including a Frenchie cafe in London, a Pomeranian cafe in Manchester and a Dachshund cafe in Birmingham.

Dog owners can bring their pooches to socialise, while fans of the breed are also welcome to come along and play with the furry customers.
