Shoppers Are Angry That M&S Is Selling Porn Star Martinis

There's always a row to be found on the internet, and today it's the turn of angry shoppers and M&S.

The retail giant is being blasted for selling porn star martinis, with customers voicing concerns that the drinks shouldn't be labelled with the word "porn".

Shoppers apparently feel that the use of the word normalises pornography, with worried consumers pointing out that M&S is a "supermarket not a sex shop".

One Twitter user complained: "Porn Star Martini? PORN STAR MARTINI?PORN. STAR. MARTINI????? MARKS AND BLOODY SPENCER, WTF IS GOING ON?" while another complained: "My kids can read & will ask what a porn star is - please let me know what you think I should tell them. Thanks."

Another shopper said that they were blocked from complaining about the £2 canned drink, which launched in October 2018, writing: "Marks & Spencer normalising porn. And if you try to complain online, the system rejects the word 'porn'. Mixed messages huh?"

However, other shoppers were quick to point out that M&S did not invent the name of the drink and that kids probably wouldn't come across it anyway, with one person arguing: "I suggest you don't take your child to the alcohol aisle in the first place, then you won't have to worry about this question."

And another said: "M&S sell one of the most popular cocktails in the western world, shock horror."

In fact, the classic cocktail dates back to the nineties, and was invented in London by a drinks innovator named Douglas Ankrah, to, according to Fox News, "bring customers out of their comfort zone". The name apparently alludes to the use of passion fruit in the drink.

The drink, which contains vanilla vodka, passion fruit puree, passion fruit liquor, vanilla sugar and a little bit of champagne, is a regular fixture on many menus in restaurants, bars and clubs all around the world, so M&S can't be expected to shoulder all the blame.

Let the debate continue...
