Pigs In Blankets In Yorkshire Puddings Are Officially A Thing

Pigs In Blankets In Yorkshire Puddings Are Officially A Thing

What's the best thing about Christmas? Presents - yeah alright. The turkey? Not a fan, personally. How about spending time with your family? Yeah, pull the other one.

The best thing about Christmas, hands down, is the pigs in blankets.

What could possibly make them better? Probably being a bit more like Northern cuisine. Well everyone, stop what you're doing, because we officially have a winner in the Christmas food game - Sainsbury's Pigs in Blankets in Yorkshire Puddings.

Taken from their Taste the Difference range (naturally), the pork sausages are wrapped in smoked British bacon and baked in a free range egg batter. And, better yet, they also come with a rich gravy laced with British ale and shallots.

The product description online reads: "We've wrapped meaty cocktail sausages in oak-smoked streaky bacon then baked them in crisp Yorkshire pudding batter to create a uniquely British canapé.

"Simply pop them in the oven to heat through, then serve them up with our rich ale and shallot gravy."

It costs £4 for eight of the dreamy little guys, and if you can't even be arsed to bake them in the oven, you can just zap them through the microwave.

You can also freeze them, which means you can stock pile them for winter. Imagine just being able to get out a few pigs in blankets in Yorkshire puddings anytime you get a bit peckish. That's the dream, right?

Or if you're in need of a roast one day, but can't really be arsed to make all the components, you can kill a few birds with one toad-in-the-hole-inspired stone, meaning you'd only have to knock up some potatoes and veg.

They'll also make a pretty nifty canape for anyone wanting to up their Christmas party game - clear the mini quiches, breadsticks, crudites, sausage rolls, soggy sandwiches, dip selection and cheese and pineapple away from the table, because we've got the proper job in now.

However, it seems not everyone's as easily impress as us. The only online review on the Sainsbury's website is a pretty scathing one-star one, with the reviewer explaining that they were 'really disappointed' with them.

Apparently 'the bacon was chewy' and all three components were 'tasteless', and that it was also one to avoid at the Christmas parties.

Ah well, you win some, you lose some. They're a winner in our eyes, at the very least.
