Restaurant Challenges Diners To Eat Over 15,000 Kcal Of Nachos In An Hour

The huge plate is filled with 1kg of tortilla crisps, 3kg of brisket beef, 1kg of cheddar cheese, 500g of sour cream, salsa and guacamole.

A restaurant is challenging it its diners to eat the world's biggest plate of nachos. And it's no mean feat - they come in a super-sized bowl, contain 15,434 calories and weigh more than a stone.

Psst...We have exciting news to share about the future of Pretty 52

Anyone who's shared a plate of nachos will know all about nacho politics. Is it acceptable to bulldoze in, taking the best, fully loaded ones first? Or is it more democratic to alternate with the dry ones on the underside?

How about that friend that shamelessly takes the daddy nacho? You know the one: that linchpin tortilla crisp flanked by about five others and congealed together by melted cheese and dripping with toppings.

Not cool at all, and TBH we'd rather our own portion.

Well The Smoke Pit in Northampton is taking the sharing element out of it altogether, offering you your own massive bowl of nachos for free... but only if you can finish it in an hour.

The Mexican feast contains 1kg of tortilla crisps, 3kg of brisket beef, 1kg of cheddar cheese, 500g of sour cream, salsa and guacamole.

The immense dish contains more than your week's worth of calories and so far, no one has been able to finish it off.

Lily Cuthberton, 22, from Northampton, gave it a go, but failed to get through even a quarter of the meal.

"I knew it was big but I didn't think it would be that big - I instantly knew it was going to be mission impossible, but I love nachos so gave it a go," she said.

"After 35 minutes I had to stop because I was stuffed, my stomach couldn't handle anymore, and the dish of nachos were never-ending.

"I didn't even want to look at the dish after I had finished and the thought of eating again knocked me sick.

"The night before the challenge I tried to prepare myself by stuffing my face with about ten crackers with cheese in a bid to stretch my stomach.

"It clearly didn't work as I barely made a dent in the nachos."

Lily added: "I would advise for anyone who is thinking about taking on the challenge to avoid eating for three weeks prior, so you are hungry enough to clean the plate!"

The dish costs £40, but as per the rules of the competition, anyone who clears their plate in 60 minutes will get it on the house.

Winners will also be awarded a free dessert though I doubt the first thing you'd be thinking about is more food after wolfing this down.

As much as we love nachos, we're getting sweaty just thinking about this feat. Reckon you could make a stab at it?

Taco Bell

In other epic Mexican food-themed news, Doritos tacos arrived in the UK last week.

Taco Bell, the Mexican-inspired eatery that has found its way to UK shores after being a huge hit in the US, is now offering its famous Doritos Los Tacos.

Think a crunchy taco shell made from Tangy Cheese Doritos on the outside filled with 100 per cent premium seasoned beef, crisp shredded lettuce and cheddar cheese. Delicious.

"Taco Bell fans have been salivating for its release in the UK since the Doritos Locos Tacos was launched in the US in 2012 and quickly became a global media phenomenon.

"Now it's here by popular demand and we have no doubt that UK fans are going to love the amazing combination between two much-loved brands" according to Pat O'Toole, Senior Marketing Director.
