People Are Calling Greggs' Vegan Sausage Rolls 'Better Than The Original'

Unless you have been living under a rock, you'll know that after weeks of speculation Greggs launched a vegan-version of its famed sausage roll today. And naturally, Twitter is obsessed already.

That's right, you can now pick up a succulent, meat-free sausage encased in 96 layers of pastry to tantalise your taste buds without a crumb of ethical guilt from your local Greggs for just £1.

The vegan sausage has been created by the bakery chain alongside plant-based experts Quorn using mycoprotein, and paired with a delicious seasoning combination, it made me double check I'd not been handed the usual version in a terrible error as I bit into it.

Vegan puff pastry made from vegetable oils surrounds the sausage, and the usual milk which gives the savoury treat a glossy finish has been ditched completely.

But if you weren't one of those who flocked down to Greggs to be one of the first to give it a whirl, thousands have taken to Twitter to declare that it's truly worth the hype.

Vegans, veggies and meat-eaters alike are even going as far to say that it's better than the original - a sentiment that we'd agree with here in the Pretty52 office:

Of course, there's a few people who have taken issue with the vegan sausage roll (*ahem* Piers Morgan), sparking a debate fiercer than Brexit over on Twitter.

But meat-free deliciousness gets a yes from us - 2019 year is off to a solid start already.
