Sainsbury's Is Selling Christmas Crackers Filled With Cheese And OMG Yum

We know which crackers we'll be buying this Christmas.

Forget classic Christmas crackers with the outdated and not environmentally friendly plastic toy inside, because this year you can get a cheese-filled cracker instead. This is not a drill.

Psst...We have exciting news to share about the future of Pretty 52

Sainsbury's is set to launch the UK's first ever cheesy Christmas cracker on 4th December, just in time for all the festivities and holy cheesus we're excited.

Inside will be two sticks of cheese, including Ilchester Cheddar and Ilchester Red Leicester, one small jar of Tiptree Tomato Chutney and five mini oatcakes, plus of course a Christmas crown and a very cheesy joke - it wouldn't be a cracker without those.

It is a bargain too at just £3.

We think it'll make a great centre-piece, or you could buy one for every member of the family in place of the traditional option if you want to splurge a little more.

It would make a great stocking filler too, just make sure you refrigerate it until the last minute.

We imagine it'll be a sell-out, but the gouda news is, if you miss the boat at Sainsbury's, it will also be stocked at Ocado and Asda.

And all the fromage fun need not end there, because returning to the festive scene this year is also the Cheese Advent Calendar - hoorah!

It's great news for those with more of a savoury tooth. It means you can say gouda-bye to the chocolate version you never really wanted.

In 2018, the cheese-filled calendar was a sell-out, because chocolate ones are just so 2017.

This time around it is better than ever with one more type of cheese included than last year.

It will be filled with 24 individually wrapped pieces of cheese in eight varieties including: Jarlsberg, Applewood, Ilchester Mature Cheddar, Ilchester Red Leicester Cheese, Ilchester Wensleydale with cranberries, Limited Edition Ilchester Wensleydale with Gingerbread, Double Gloucester and even a spicy addition known as Mexicana.

It will be available to buy for £8-£10 at Asda, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Ocado, Waitrose, Lidl and Booths from November, but you best be quick to snap it up because Asda said it was the best-selling calendar across all categories in 2018 - yes it even beat chocolate versions!

The idea was initially pitched by food blogger Annem Hobson from So Wrong It's Nom, who created a prototype a few years ago.

Over 11,000 people signed a campaign to support the creation of the calendar within four days and it was finally brought to life in 2017 by cheese specialists Norseland in Ilchester.

The calendar is a clever one too. While initially it'll take up a lot of space in your fridge, it has been designed specially to be torn in half after the first 12 doors have been opened, so that it takes up less space the fridge.

The cheese loving blogger is also the mastermind behind the cheesy cracker.

Annem comments: "I'm so proud of how far the Cheese Advent Calendar has come."

So Wrong It's Nom

"Not only are we adding more cheeses this year, but I'm finally unveiling my latest invention: The Cheese Cracker!

"I shared a prototype of this last year, and nearly 4,000 people sent in their feedback on how to bring the idea to life."

We can't think of a better cracker to have at our festive lunch, while the calendar is surely the most mature way to countdown to Christmas, right?
