An eye-opening TikTok has revealed the vast size differences of size 12 trousers at a number of popular stores.

In a video posted on the popular clip-sharing service, a user called Sophie Shakeshaft tried on a number of her trousers from different stores to portray the difference.

Trying on a range of bottoms, including loose fitting tracksuits from Asos, white high-waisted jeans from Topshop and black jeans from Pretty Little Thing, Sophie showed that despite all being labelled as a size 12, not all of them fitted her body.

At the end of the video, Sophie said: "Notice my body didn't change size once during this video! Don't put value in your clothes size babygirl. Love the skin you're in.

She added in the video's caption: "Clothes sizes don't exists and companies just make them up : change my mind."

The uplifting video was warmly received on TikTok, with many thanking Sophie for her reassurance, especially as some were feeling self-conscious about their bodies post-Christmas.

One viewer wrote: "I needed this. Gonna start buying the size that fits me best in that piece of clothing. I would normally feel paranoid if my usual size doesn't fit me."

Another said: "This made me feel so much better, thank you for making this!"

"Makes me feel better about all my jeans that clearly aren't the same size!" a third laughed.

"Thank you so so so much!" a fourth chipped in. "Honestly this made me tear up a little bit. I feel I'm always judging myself for what's on the label."

Sophie was keen to reassure her followers who weren't happy with their body size.

Replying to those who commented, Sophie wrote: "It can be so disheartening. Just remember when you're shopping that this isn't a you problem, but a them problem.

"Comfort is key - no one can see the label and the label doesn't matter!"
