Turning your home into a slice of Hogwarts couldn’t be easier…

With Christmas barrelling round the corner, there's only one plan on our list - binge-watching every Harry Potter film again.

But for some Potterheads, a cinematic trip to Hogwarts just isn't enough.

That's why one fan has gone a step further, creating her own slice of the magical school of witchcraft and wizardry in her home.

And you don't need to magic up tonnes of money to do it, as mum-of-two Rachel Wood has shown with her living room's Slytherin make-over - made on just a £70 budget.

The 44-year-old has a yearly tradition of decking her halls to look like the Slytherin dungeons, using her training as a special effects make-up artist to complete the look. And while she first did it to cheer up her kids, the Harry Potter fan now does it every year despite them now being grown up.

Rachel manages to create her very own slither of Hogwarts at bargain prices by upcycling and savvy bargain searching on eBay and vintage stores.

"I discovered that I was in Slytherin House via the Pottermore app, so this year I've opted for a Slytherin look and feel, which has been inspired by watching the films and seeing the authentic sets at work," she told LatestDeals.co.uk.

As fellow Potterheads will know, Slytherin values ambition, cunning, leadership, and resourcefulness - qualities Rachel has in spades.

"I always put my own interpretation on the theme," she explained. "I start with the walls, which are decorated in shades of grey and silver. I then turn my attention to the small furnishings, such as cushion covers.

"I always source the decorations from charity shops or search for bargains on eBay This year, I have probably spent between £30 and £70."

Among her favourite trinkets in her living room, Rachel loves her drinks trolley, which she has made just that bit more magical by adding "pre-loved potions".

"My favourite creation, however, is the chest of drawers that I bought from a charity shop for £20 and upcycled into a dog bed and TV unit," she said. "I removed the top two drawers, sanded it down, and then primed and painted it with white furniture paint.

"I used sticky-back plastic Fablon vinyl on the sides and the top and then wallpapered the back panel with some leftover paper from the rolls I used for my living room.

"I put some cushions along the bottom and then added the green and white blanket. Lastly, I mounted two pictures in silver frames on the back panel. My pups Stanley and Violet seem to approve."

But it wouldn't be Christmas without a tree, with Rachel, who has previously turned her living room into the Gryffindor house and the Yule Ball, adapting her baubles to fit the new theme.

"This year, for instance, I added green feathers, Slytherin stickers and gems to a selection of baubles."

Rachel usually decides on the theme at the beginning of the year so she has lots of time to collect things that she thinks will work.

"I will use the majority of the items I collect the next year, too, by painting them or altering them in some way," she says. "My family and friends are always eager to see what I'm going to do next."

Now we just need to convince Rachel to work some of her magic on our home!
