The Christmas Tree Hair Trend Has Taken Over Instagram And It's Festive AF

Move over unicorn hair, this festive trend has taken over Instagram as people deck their heads with baubles, lights and lots of green dye.

While a glitter eye or festive red lip were once more than enough to signal your readiness for Christmas party season, it seems Christmas beauty has migrated north - and it's extra.

Forget unicorn hair - Christmas tree hair is the trend raising eyebrows and barnets across Instagram.

The gravity-defying trend first appeared on our feeds in 2016 - but just like Santa Claus comes back every year without fail. So how do you do it? One video by What's Trending explains the style is achieved by placing an empty water bottle or foam cone on top of your head to form the unmistakable pine tree shape.

Hair is then smoothed upwards and over the top of the bottle or cone and held in place with a hair elastic, lots of green hair spray and a Christmas wish that it won't fall down. Short or fine hair? Don't bother.

Now for the fun part. Tinsel, fairy lights (just hide the battery pack down your collar), baubles, fairy or star on the top - whatever you'd deck the halls with can go on your hair. Dangly present earrings underneath optional.

Seems Christmas is the new Halloween when it comes to pushing the boat out with your outfit, hair and makeup. Yes: it takes a great deal of the time, dedication and attention to detail that you should perhaps save for wrapping presents or solving third world debt but at least you'd get an unforgettable selfie out of it. Priorities.
