Teen Funds Her Student Lifestyle Selling Festival Glitter On Depop

Teenager Ellen Bundey has become one of the Top 10 traders on Depop with 13 million users after flogging her affordable glitter.

The 19-year-old university student spotted a gap in the market for sparkling makeup, which is especially popular with festival goers, while studying for her A-levels.

She began mixing colourful cocktails of glitter and sequins in her bedroom with varieties, including "cherry blossom" and "disco ball", before selling them on the popular shopping app.

Two years on, Ellen's business, Rose and Sparkle, has become the fifth highest in the world on the app, shipping up to 75 orders a day to 38 countries.

After starting the business with 15 glitter blends, interest in the makeup perked and Ellen expanded the range.

She photographs, packages and posts the items herself alongside her geography degree at Coventry University.

And that's not all as the student finds time to make jewellery, which she also sells on the online shop.

The Kent native said: "Reaching fifth on the Depop worldwide ranking is a huge accomplishment for me. I would have never dreamed of my small online shop growing this big.

"Using social media as a form of marketing has been great as my target audience - younger people - often turn to apps such as Instagram and Depop to gain inspiration for styling.

"I absolutely love Depop. It's so popular because it meshes social media with online shopping. You really can start and run a business from your bedroom.

Rose and Sparkle's sales have tripled in a year largely down to a booming festival industry increasing demand for funky accessories.

Established in 2011, the peer-to-peer social shopping app Depop is worth millions, with youngsters using it to buy and sell vintage clothing, accessories and more.

Next year, Ellen plans to bring an even bigger range to Rose and Sparkle, including seasonal sets while also investing in marketing and better photography equipment.

She added: "My dream career lies within cosmetic marketing or content creating but if Rose and Sparkle gets really big, I would consider working on it full-time.
