Hairdresser reveals four ‘icks’ most clients do during haircut

Hairdresser reveals four ‘icks’ most clients do during haircut

She posted a TikTok video to talk us through her biggest bugbears

A hairdresser has revealed the biggest ‘icks’ she experiences while at work, and there's one in particular that people had NO idea they were guilty of.

Hairdresser Emily Rose posted a TikTok video a while back to talk us through her biggest bugbears:

Emily, who has more than 60,000 followers on TikTok, revealed some of the ways you could be giving your stylist the ick without even trying. Whoops.

Dirty hair

‘Super dirty hair’ was her first complaint, which is totally fair.

“When a client comes to me with super dirty hair, just no,” she said.

“We don’t want to touch your dirty hair but it’s also not good for your colour, it doesn’t take as well."

Awkward eye contact

Her second ick was having customers ‘look her in the eyes’ when they put their heads over the bowl to get their hair shampooed which does sound very awks.

“Don’t do that,” she warned. “It is awkward for everybody. Just close your eyes.”

Ick number three was the one that ‘really gets her’.

Grabbing coffee

She said: “When you show up late but you have a coffee in your hand and don’t have one for us. We love coffee too and we need the caffeine to do your hair.”

Number four is something you may not even notice you do.

Turning heads

“When you are in our chair and we turn our chair and the head looks back at the mirror, please don’t do that because there is a reason we are turning your chair,” she explained.

Well, this does make a lot of sense.

Naturally, viewers went straight to the comments to discuss all the icks Emily shared, especially the dirty hair which has become quite a controversial topic.

“Waitttttt I was always told to get your hair coloured with dirty hair??” one confused commenter wrote.

Lots of people asked similar questions, however, a couple of TikTok users clarified that dirty hair is better for styling rather than colouring.

Another hairdresser in the comments said: “People take it to the extreme though, if your hair stinks and your scalp is itching from being dirty, please don’t come to the salon that way.”

While someone else penned: “That's old school. Chemical services used to be a lot harsher. Unless you do on the scalp bleach, and still then day 2 hair, not dirty.”

One woman, who is presumably one of Emily’s regular customers, commented: “I am definitely guilty of the dirty hair.”

Emily replied: “Nooooo your hair is never bad at all!!!! I’m talking about SUPER dirty hair!!”

Other people were outraged about Emily’s joke about buying the hairdresser a coffee.

“We’re paying more than enough for a service without the expectation of bringing a coffee for a hairdresser,” declared one person.

Emily responded and wrote back to a comment defending her, writing: “Thank you for saying this! Everyone is misunderstanding the coffee comment... it’s only if a client is late with a coffee!”
