Dermatologist shares five things she would never do to her skin

Dermatologist shares five things she would never do to her skin

She took to TikTok to explain the rundown

Whether you're guilty of not washing your beauty blender enough, doing a quick make-up wipe jobby to remove all your beauty products after a long night or forget to lather on SPF in the sun - I'm sure we all do things to our skin that we probably shouldn't.

So, to help clear things up, one expert has shared the top five things she would never do to her skin.

Board-certified NYC dermatologist Dr Shereene Idriss, who goes by the handle @shereeneidriss online, took to TikTok to share with her 608.3k followers exactly why.

She began by telling viewers: "Number one, I would never use the same facial wash cloth two nights in a row.

"I know it sounds excessive, but you don't wash your face and then introduce a dirty underwear to wipe it off."

Shereene explained: "Because that's essentially what you're doing when you use the same facial wash cloth two nights in a row.

"Now, it does sound a little excessive, but it's really not that bad or hard to do or expensive - you buy seven small little washcloths, I used to use them on my babies, and then you do your laundry once a week.

"And voilà! You don't have to think because if you're doing it once a week and you have seven washcloths, boom, each time you wash your face, you have a clean washcloth.

Next up is never using a pore vacuum or a blackhead extractor device.

Admitting that even as a skin expert, she can still 'go out of hand' when extracting blackheads, Shereene warned viewers: "Now imagine what kind of damage you can do with this crazy torture tool in your hands.

"Bottom line, that s**t is going to f**k up your skin."

The expert warned against using expired suncream.

Third on the rundown is never using an expired suncream.

"It's expensive s**t and it's supposed to protect your skin. Why the hell would you take a gamble on a product that's probably been sitting by some window for, like, a year because, now, you remembered you're gonna go to the beach and you're gonna want to use it again?"

She suggested: "Just go buy a new one and get the protection that you're actually buying.

"And if you're going to take the time, effort, energy and spend the money to do so make sure you're using the right stuff that's actually going to protect your skin."

Fourth on Shereene's list is all about Botox.

She continued: "Allow your movement to fully come back before you get Botox again, especially if you're being advised to get Botox at a young age, which personally I think you guys can skip, but you want the movement to come back.

"Why? Because you want your ethos to be alive. You want your personality to come through. You don't want to be flaccid [...] and look flat your whole life."

And last but by no means least on Shereene's list of no-no's is that she would never use a dedicated hydronic acid serum.

She said that the product can be inflammatory and can lead to redness and an inflamed skin barrier.

"So I will just cut it out when it comes to dedicated HA serums you don't need it," the dermatologist concluded. "That's it."

Guess you really do learn something new everyday.
