This Is Officially The Best Dog To Have In Your Dating Profile Pic

We’re not even going to lie about it – a man posing with his dog on their dating profile is an instant swipe right.

And it seems we’re not the only ones who are suckers for those puppy dog eyes, as a new study has found that having a dog in your profile picture increases the chance of a match by a whopping 72 per cent.

But it appears that some pooches are more attractive pets for prospective daters than others, with one particular breed coming out on top.

Yep, owning a cockapoo officially makes you more attractive. Sorry, we don’t make the rules.

The results have come about as a result of a study by leading raw dog food company ProDog Raw, who complied data from 2,076 dating app users and their profiles, to discover whether there is a correlation between having a profile picture showing a dog and the number of matches a user gets.

It was cockapoos that proved to be the best wingman/pup on your profile, with a person posing with this cross-breed of pooch receiving five times more matches when compared to someone who doesn’t have a dog in their profile.

Other breeds that proved popular with singletons looking to date include the French Bulldog and the Miniature Dachshund.

Meanwhile, it’s bad news for Chihuahuas, with the tiny lapdog popular with Paris Hilton and other socialites totting up the fewest number of matches.

Those looking to swipe right also admit that they may use their pets to reel in the matches.

Over half of those who responded (54 per cent) said they used their furry friends to attract partners, while 84 per cent said they preferred dating apps which showed pictures of singles and their pets.

And unsurprisingly for a nation of dog lovers, we’d be put off a person if they didn’t like our pets – a whopping 94 per cent of us agreed that a negative response to their pet would put them off a potential match.

Heidi Maskelyne, founder of ProDog Raw, said of the study: “We all know that dogs are man’s best friend, but it is interesting to see the effect that our dogs can have on our love life - whether that effect be on our success or our attraction to others - and why this effect happens.

“Dogs are a great conversation starter whether you are looking for a relationship or not, but the science behind how our attraction to someone can change based on our reaction to their pet is truly fascinating. 

“Whatever the reason, owning a dog clearly has far more benefits than simply keeping you active and improving your mental health. Whether you find friends or find love, the study shows you’ll be more successful doing it with a dog by your side!”
