The new controversial show has no official release date yet but is expected to air later this year.

The four-part reality TV series will feature three couples in each episode and is billed as a ground-breaking "social experiment."

Channel 4 factual entertainment commissioning editor Becky Cadman said to The Sun: "Sex Tape promises a unique fly-on-the-wall look at relationships as they really happen including the good, the bad and the ugly.

"It's an innovative new format that will hopefully help people recapture the romance in their relationship."

In each episode, the couples hoping to fix their relationships meet each other, along with a sex therapist, for a "new therapy."

They reveal their uncensored tapes to each other to see whether "they can gain a new perspective on their relationship."

Executive producer Gary Chippington said the show was a "ground-breaking series".

"Sex Tape promises to be a perceptive, revealing and surprising social experiment offering a fascinating insight into intimacy."

It's not like Channel 4 hasn't gone into similar territories before - as you'll know if you've ever watched the slightly controversial series Sex Box, where people literally do it in a box. On TV. Then have a little discussion about it.

Seven Year Switch was where brave couples took radical steps to try to save their failing relationships by switching partners, in an experiment to find out if they really want to stay together or if it's time to split.

And of course Naked Attraction where singletons pick a date from a selection of naked people. They then get dressed and head off on a date. With clothes on obviously.
