PSA: Your Netflix Subscription Is About To Go Up In Price

Netflix addicts, we come bearing bad news. The platform announced it would be hiking its prices up for UK subscription packages back in May, but now it has revealed the imminent date the changes will impact existing customers.

The streaming giant's prices for UK users hadn't changed since 2017, but they recently raised their fees by up to 20 per cent for new customers, and announced that existing plans would also be changing.

The standard plan for both new and existing customers will increase by £1 up to £8.99, while the premium account will increase by £2 up to £11.99.

Meanwhile the price of the basic plan will stay the same at £5.99.

A basic plan only allows viewing on a single device in standard definition, whereas the two other packages allow more devices to use the account with high definition viewing - the standard allows two whereas the premium allows four.

A Netflix spokesperson said: "We change our prices from time to time to reflect the significant investments we've made in new TV shows and films, as well as improvements to our product.

"We have more than 50 productions planned in the UK this year, including new seasons of Black Mirror, Sex Education and After Life.

"Our basic membership will remain at the same price, ensuring as many people as possible can enjoy our content."

The change in price for UK Netflix subscribers might not come as much of a surprise as similar increases were recently introduced for those over in the States.

Netflix say that despite the price change, it remains "great value for money compared to other options on offer in the UK".

But if you want to end your subscription, all you need to do is sign in and head to your 'Account' page, where there is a 'cancel membership' button that allows you to do just that.

It comes amid the imminent arrival of Disney+, which is set to rival the service at a price of $6.99 when it launches in the US on November 12.

This converts to roughly £5.50 in the UK, although a price or launch date hasn't been confirmed for Brits.
