There's arguably nothing worse than hopping on your train home from a stressful day at work, to find there's no seats left, and you have to stand like a sardine for the next hour.
It's an experience most commuters are familiar with, but Virgin Trains wants to put an end to it by introducing a new booking system, which means all bookings would need to come with a seat reservation.
The travel company, which operates on the West Coast, wants to abolish standing on its trains, by making sure all customers have booked a ticket and a seat before their travel.

While never having to stand on the commute sounds absolutely lovely, it would obviously mean that all journeys would have to be planned in advance, which not everyone is always able to do.
It'd also mean that you wouldn't be able to hop on a different time train, but it would certainly make for more comfortable travel when you did actually book in advance.

Under new plans, Virgin would also get rid of peak and off-peak pricing tiers, which has divided members of the public.
While it might appeal to commuters who have no choice but to travel at the most expensive times of the day, Unions have said it'll make for an increased ticket price for all travellers.
Mick Cash, general secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union, told Cosmo: "It would lead to total chaos with passengers trapped in a transport nightmare of escalating fares where prices rise by the minute according to availability."
However, Virgin has refuted the claims, insisting the change could prompt ticket prices to fall, as well as seeing a reduction in overcrowding.

The plans are still in the talking stages and no changes have been made yet. It'll be interesting to see how this one pans out.
