Ryanair's New Hand Luggage Policies Come Into Play Tomorrow

Here's all you need to know on the airline's new luggage rules before you fly.

Ryanair announced major changes to its hand luggage policies earlier this year, and now these baggage rules are about to come into play.

From tomorrow, passengers flying on Ryanair will have to pay new fees for luggage - whether they are going in the hold or on-board.

As it stands, if you don't pay for priority boarding, Ryanair lets you take at 10kg wheelie bag through security and into the hold for free - but not onto the plane.

But from Thursday, you'll have to pay a fee for it to be put into the hold or pay for priority boarding to take hand luggage on the plane.

The only luggage you'll be able to take into the cabin for no extra fee will be a small handbag or laptop bag.

Priority boarding:

Ryanair passengers will need to pay for priority boarding so they can take their hand luggage onto the plane with them.

Priority boarding costs £6 at the time of booking, or £8 if it's added on later.

Customers with priority boarding tickets can take two free carry-on bags (one 10kg bag and one small bag) into the cabin.

Non-priority boarding:

Ryanair passengers without priority boarding can only take a small handbag or laptop onto the plane free of charge, and it must go under the seat in front of you.

The dimensions must be within 40cm x 20cm x 25cm.

You're no longer able to put a bag in the hold for free as well, and a fee must be paid.

Checking in a bag weighing over 10kg costs £8 at the time of booking or £10 later on.

It costs £20 if customers want to put a bag in the hold at the check-in desk or £25 at the boarding gate.

If your small handbag or laptop case is too big, you'll have to pay the above £25 fee to put it into the hold at the gate.

When do the changes come into effect?

These changes come into effect from tomorrow (1st November), however there are exceptions.

Customers who booked flights on or before 31st August as a non-priority customer - if you are flying on or after 1st November you be able to take a 10kg bag for free.

Customers who booked flights on or before 31st August as a priority customer - if you are flying on or after 1st November, you should have the priority boarding fee refunded. You will still board as priority.
