Renae Williamson had a thumping headache for four days straight but she didn't realise it could be deadly.
39-year-old Renae from Australia went to visit her GP, Dr Praba Selvendra aftter seeking advice from her twin sister Nicole.
According to Mamma Mia, Nicole suggested that Renae make an appointment with her GP believing that her headache may be a migraine, which are common in their family.
When her doctor asked her how she would like to deal with the pain Ranae replied with: "I want to get a knife, insert it into the top of my brain and remove the right hand side and then I think I will be fine".
The GP sent Ranae for an MRI and when the results came back she couldn't believe it.
She had a massive tumour: "I was told if I had left it another 24 hours I would be dead," she said.
Renae spent the next five days in hospital and had an operation which involved 19 staples in the back of her head. The operation removed the tumour and she was allowed to go home but was told not to do everyday tasks such as drive, cook or lift anything too heavy.
However, just five days later, fluid began leaking from the area she had been operated on and she had to have more surgery. She spent more than a week in bed and was unable to move without a nurse being nearby.
Renae said: "I cried so much. I felt completely helpless. For the first time, I was scared and nervous about what was happening to me."
Sadly Renae was given the devastating diagnosis of melanoma cancer and in more heartbreaking news another large tumour was found at the back of Renae's brain, along with three to four smaller ones.
The cancer has turned Renae's life upside down and also had a financial impact on Renae and her family. She was forced to give up her studies in nursing and sell their apartment.
She also said they have maxed out their credit card and have only $5.25 left in their account.
