A creepy doll named Abigail has become the internet's latest celebrity after her owner shared a picture with her on Twitter.

Let's be honest dolls are like clowns, you either love them or hate them, but in this case Twitter user Nerdy Vixen's soft toy is utterly terrifying and social media agrees.

Sharing a snap of the eerie doll, which she found in an antique store, she said: "I kept thinking about this doll, seeing its face in my head. I decided it was time to bring it home today."

However, the post caused the internet to go wild and had many jokingly predicting all the ways the Puritan-looking doll would haunt her, insisting that it looked straight out of a horror film.

A worried user shared: "Can you post an update tomorrow morning just so we know the doll didn't murder you in your sleep?"

"Um, you putting it on the porch to sleep? I recommend putting it on the porch to sleep," another penned.

A third follower wrote: "This is a rookie mistake, she'll be up all-night listening to its feet pitter patter up and down the side of her house and in the morning the neighbour's dog will be hanging from the nearest tree by its entrails."

"And in the morning, you find an open front door, a wet trail through the house to the shelf next to your bed, and written in mud on the wall the words 'tonight is your turn,'" another lamented.

A final Twitter user concluded: "The best place for that doll to sleep is in a locked chest at the bottom of a lake."

In the wake of her doll breaking the internet, Nerdy Vixen, who declined to give her real name, told the Daily Dot that she was taken by surprise by the internet reaction to Abigail.

She said: "I thought I'd post it, and the followers I had would just think I'm silly. But a couple of them retweeted it and it blew up! I kinda figured people would compare it to Annabelle, though."

She also said nothing spooky has happened since she brought Abigail home and insisted the homemade children's toy is "definitely not evil".
