Spotify And Netflix Could Be Blocked for UK Citizens On Holiday

If Britain goes ahead with a 'no deal' Brexit, we could be waving 'bye bye' to using our favourite streaming services on holiday in Europe.

Gone are the days of having to spend all our hard earned cash on buying actual hard copies of CDs or DVDs, every time we wanted to listen to our favourite band, or watch our favourite film - thanks to the introduction of Spotify and Netflix.

We live in a world where we know what we want and we want to stream it now, damn it.

But, if reports are anything to go by, these two incredible streaming services along with all the others, could be under threat to Brits staying within Europe if the UK leaves the European Union with no deal. But how?!

Well, it's all down to something called 'geo-blocking' which is currently in place stopping any discrimination between someone when they are at home in the UK or if they're travelling the rest of Europe.

According to the Independent, newly-released official documents talk about the potential impact of a no-deal Brexit including that the 'geo-blocking' arrangement that currently exists would 'cease to have effect'.

The document says: "Following repeal of the Geo-Blocking Regulation in the UK, traders from the UK, EU and third countries would not be prohibited from discriminating between EU customers and UK customers.

"For instance a UK trader would be able to offer different terms to a UK customer compared to a French customer."

Twenty-nine technical papers have been released by Government departments, detailing their preparations for what would happen in the event of a 'no deal'.

The documents also show that the UK will lose free trade agreements with more than 70 non-EU countries around the world if it leaves without a deal in March next year, the Evening Standard reports.

New guidance covers things ranging from the regulation of pesticides, trading in electricity, rail transport and the trade in rough diamonds, but obviously nothing is more important than Netflix and Spotify.
