young couple have been caught up in an almost laughable nightmare after Argos failed to deliver them a fridge - and then offered up a mini fridge as a replacement.

Lauren Brown and her partner Lee Stubbs from Rossendale, Lancashire, ordered a £170 Simple Value Fridge Freezer for delivery last Saturday with the intention of filling it with food an hour later.

However, after calling the company three times and on each occasion being told to wait, the couple were then sent a mini fridge as a replacement. But with the new fridge not even big enough to hold a pint of milk, it's safe to say the couple were not best pleased.

"It's been a nightmare and my partner was absolutely fuming," said Lauren.

"They said they wouldn't be able to get it delivered until next Saturday and sent me a mini fridge. When it arrived, I opened it and said 'well this is a bit small, it won't fit anything in'.

Despite the irritations caused however, the couple have managed to find light in the situation.

"It's laughable now. It's becoming a bit of a joke," admitted Lauren.

With the Argos customer service team suggesting the couple bought smaller containers to store their milk - humouring the situation was all they really had left.

"I contacted customer services via Facebook and they told me to get some smaller containers or glasses to put the milk in and fit it in the fridge," said Lauren.

"I don't have any containers small enough. Luckily we have a good sense of humour."

The company later suggested the couple live off takeaways until their fridge arrived and offered them a £40 voucher and upgrade as a gesture of apology.

"We've had to eat takeaways all week and Argos have said to send in all the receipts for them to head office to look at," said Lauren.

An Argos spokesperson said: "We've contacted Lee and Lauren to apologise for their experience. We are arranging to deliver an upgraded model as a gesture of goodwill as soon as possible."
