While some McDonald's customers mourn the loss of the plastic straw, others have started coming up with innovative ways to consume their chilled beverages without having to use the flimsy paper straws.

But, as we all know, plastic straws were taken away as a result of all the non-biodegradable plastic ending up in our oceans, and unfortunately this new method of drinking requires even more plastic.

Some people are now requesting coffee lids to place over their cool drinks instead, to avoid using the "mushy" paper straws being offered by the fast-food chain instead.

Sharing the hack on Twitter, someone wrote: "Much respect to McDonalds for trying to cut on plastic disposal and use paper straws.

"So, when I next get a drink, I'll be asking them to use a coffee cup lid for my drink.

"Thank me later."

Since introducing the new paper straws, more than 40,000 people have signed a petition calling on McDonald's to bring back the plastic, despite concerns over plastic pollution.

One cheeky Maccie D's customer attempted to flog 'super rare' McDonald's plastic straw for £1,000 on eBay'super rare' McDonald's plastic straw for £1,000 on eBay.

The product description for the plastic drinking device reads: "Brilliant uncirculated brand new McDonald's straw this is soon to become the stuff of legend, imagine your about 50 years older than you are now, telling your grandchildren how you got given plastic straws from McDonald's and they will look up to you like god!"

It continues: "And you will turn to them and laugh and say I'm no god, I was alive before the snowflake generation took over!

"Want to bring them back so you don't have to spend money on my listing? Then sign the petition."

Can someone get David Attenborough to have a word, please?
