Jorgia was born last February with a heart-shaped birthmark on her belly

A mother has spoken out about her shock at discovering her tiny tot was born with a love heart on her tummy.

Jayne Welch, from Stoke-on-Trent, welcomed Jorgia into the world on 22 February last year.

But while she was over the moon to finally meet her little bundle of joy, the mum was surprised when she spotted a pink love heart on her belly.

The 37-year-old said she and the medical team couldn't believe it, but felt it was fitting given she was born in the most romantic month of the year.

"The heart-shaped birthmark is on Jorgia’s tummy and midwives couldn’t believe it when they spotted it," recalled Jayne.

She went on: "We knew we were having a girl and the paediatrician was amazed when they noticed the red marking on Jorgia’s tiny tummy.

"When she was first born, it was only a little red mark, but in a perfect heart shape.

"Since then it has kept growing naturally.

"It was quite flat at first but it developed and is slightly raised now."

At the time, doctors told Jayne and partner Joe that the heart would most likely go away eventually.

But almost a year after Jorgia was born, it's still there.

“Doctors thought it would fade, but it hasn’t disappeared or faded," said Jayne.

“Jorgia is growing up quickly, it’s grown with her and in perfect proportion

“She is very cheeky and so funny and Joe is smitten with her. She is a real daddy’s girl.”

The proud mum says that anyone who ever meets Jorgia is always shocked by the interestingly-shaped birthmark.

She said: “Everyone who meets her loves it and always wants to see it.

“She is known as ‘the little girl with the perfect love heart ’ and we are grateful there are no medical concerns about it.

“It’s just a beautiful and unique part of her.”

Even Jorgia has started to notice her unique birthmark.

"She pokes it in the bath, and since she has developed a pincher grip, she has tried to take it off," Jayne said.

“We have explained to her, it’s stuck to her. It’s a very special, unique part of her."

Jayne says she loves it so much that now she's looking at getting a matching tattoo.

She explained: “I would like to get a matching tattoo in the same place.

“I really hope if it does stay as she gets older that she will love it as much as we do and that she won’t be self-conscious about it.”

“We love our February-born baby girl and her very unique love heart birthmark.”
