We are a nation of true animal lovers, and now the UK destination with the most pampered pets has been revealed as Blackpool.

A study by the Express looked at which UK cities had the most pampering places for pets, from pet shops and grooming parlours to parks and kennels.

After examining 70 cities and towns, researchers found that Blackpool was the ultimate luxurious place to own a pet, with the most pet facilities per capita compared to its rivals.

Blackpool, according to the study, boasts 52.19 pet-friendly facilities per capita, including 16.44 dog walkers, 12.87 pet shops, 7.15 kennels, and 6.43 vets.

After Blackpool in first place, next up were Chelmsford and Woking, followed by Brighton, Crawley, Worthing and Gloucester.

And though Londoners may consider themselves to be pet lovers, the capital was at the bottom of the list, with only 4.40 pet facilities per capita compared to 52.19 in Blackpool (though this makes sense when you compare the size of the two destinations).

Pet-related studies are some of our favourite things. In the last few months, we've learnt several interesting statistics when it comes to how much we love our animals.

For example, we found research to prove that dog owners are happier people, with studies showing that dogs help to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and improve your overall health.

Then only last month, we discovered that our habit of talking to our pets is actually good for us, and that pets are more effective than drugs at controlling blood pressure.

And then, in totally non-surprising news, another study revealed that most Brits would choose their dog over their partner if given the choice.

Perhaps our favourite of all, though, was the news that letting your dog sleep on your bed ensures you'll have a better night's sleep.

We knew it all along.
