Two decades have passed since Cruel Intentions hit cinema screens, but Sarah Michelle Gellar's friendship with co-star Selma Blair hasn't wavered: The Buffy The Vampire Slayer actress just praised Selma for not letting her MS diagnosis define her in a heartfelt Instagram.

Selma, who went public with her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in October last year, made her first red carpet appearance at the Oscars party on Sunday evening. Clips posted from the event show the actress totally owning a custom cane she now uses to walk while wearing a gorgeous floor-length dress in pastel colours with a sweetheart neckline.

Sarah took to her personal Instagram page to gush over her bestie hours later, declaring that to say she's proud "would be a gross understatement" ahead of her Good Morning America appearance.

"This is my dear friend @selmablair Last night she stood on the world stage for the first time, since being diagnosed with MS. And later this week, she is taking an even bigger step, and speaking publicly on @goodmorningamerica (with, my girl crush @robinrobertsgma)," enthused Sarah.

"To say I'm proud, would be a gross understatement. When I have a cold, I want to hide from the world under my covers. But not Selma.

"She is facing this diagnosis, the way she faces everything, with dignity, grace and head on.

"I know the support and encouragement that she has received on this platform has truly been a source of strength for her. This is not an easy journey, but Selma will not let this define her. I love you James."

And in the comments section, 46-year-old Blair replied: "I love you so dearly."

Since her diagnosis, Sarah has publicly supported her longtime pal on social media. "I love you, I'm proud of you, and there is nothing I wouldn't do for you," penned the actress as Blair's MS was revealed to the world.

Selma spoke candidly of the condition on Good Morning America too, telling hosts: "I am doing very well. I am very happy to see you. Being able to just put out what being in the middle of an aggressive form of multiple sclerosis is like.

"So my speech, I have spasmodic dysphonia right now.

"...It is interesting to be here to say this is what my particular case looks like right now."

"I had tears," she explained as she was diagnosed, initially believing she had a pinched nerve. "They weren't tears of panic, they were tears of knowing that I now had to give in to a body that had loss of control and there was some relief in that."
